I'll never forget the feeling I had in the hospital in Mount Kisco, NY when I had a kidney stone that required surgically removal. The urologist had 8 of us lined up on gurneys in the hall outside of the operating room (like planes taxiing down the runway), and the anesthesiologist walked from one to the next saying "hello, I'm Dr. Ching, I'm going to give you something to make you feel good". That was 20 years ago, and I was thinking these guys are going to have a pretty good day. The urologist is making $10,000 for each of the 8 of us, and the feel good man $900 each. Sure beats minimum wage for a morning's work.
I think these days, even if you have surgery inside a hospital they pretty much do it like outpatient where you're out the door in no time at all.
