I don't foresee Whole Foods coming to Morgantown anytime soon; however, Trader Joe's is a very real possibility!
State College, PA (home of Penn State University) has a Trader Joe's. Let's compare the City of State College and the surrounding Centre County to the City of Morgantown and the surrounding Monongalia County, respectively, as of 2010.
State College:
Pop. 42,034
Median Household Income: $26,007
Bachelor's Degree or Higher: 66.3%
Morgantown:
Pop. 29,660
Median Household Income: $29,328
Bachelor's Degree or Higher: 47.1%
Centre County, PA:
Pop. 153,990
Median Household Income: $50,336
Bachelor's Degree or Higher: 40.4%
Monongalia County, WV:
Pop. 96,189
Median Household Income: $44,173
Bachelor's Degree or Higher: 38.1%
So, yes, while State College/Centre County are more populated, more educated, and more affluent than Morgantown/Monongalia County, the disparity isn't really that wide, and both areas are growing steadily. I'd expect Morgantown to be on Trader Joe's radar within the next several years.
