While very true what you said above, this comes from the new director for WestRidge (Holly Childs), who used to be in charge of the Mon County Development group/authority. Take this also with a grain of salt since her job is to develop and sell WestRidge.
Do you think the part about the 80% committed is accurate?
If Morgantown gets a Waffle House, WVU will be in line for an SEC bid by 2024
lol, but theres Waffle Houses in so many Northern & Midwestern States now that the ol "You know youre in the South when you see a Waffle House" line doesnt really apply anymore. Now its more like when you see em off every highway exit and seemingly one in every neighborhood, thats when you know youre in the South lmao
Although that makes sense from a geographic standpoint, I believe WVU is quite content with the current situation. They are mitigating the distance issue by increasingly scheduling their old long time rivals on an alternating basis for non conference games. On upcoming football schedules, Pitt, Virginia Tech, and Penn State have been scheduled. The same with basketball, and throw in Kentucky coming to Morgantown this year.
Financially, revenue from conference payouts and Tier 3 media rights payments is expected to top $32 million this year, increasing the currently #31 ranked in the country college athletics revenue stream at least a couple million beyond the current $90.4 million (last year). Being the primary university for the Nation's poorest, and one of the smallest states, that is an excellent return among the 64 Power 5 athletic programs. Of course, The University has strong alumni support so the donor base is very solid, and as a national institution it is not totally dependent on the economic conditions of the state. It has a lot of support from areas outside West Virginia, and a major media presence in surrounding states as well.

Without turning this into the WVU sports thread, there have been talks of a WVU/Mizzou swap between XII/SEC.
Short term (3-5 years) it does not make sense but after that it is a slam dunk decision for WVU to go to SEC if offered. Still want to see one league 64 team (8 divisions of 8, or 16 divisions of 4 teams (think WVU, Penn State, VT and MD all in a division with rotating competition yearly, plus a spot for a rival game)).
Now back to the thread and since WVU is being mentioned, I wonder what WVU medicine facilities will be built at WestRidge on the pad they own. Based on the recent drawings of the site, it looks like 2 large facilities and then 1-2 office type buildings. I'm still betting on the cancer center and the children's hospital both getting their own facilities over there. Or cancer and some other new department getting their own facilities.
