I remember the Old Vincent Pallotti Hospital. It was still open when I came to Morgantown in the late 60s. It was originally a Catholic run Hospital with, I believe, nursing sisters. I was never in it and didn’t even go past it much the first couple of years I was here. I didn’t know anyone in Arnold and I didn’t have a car, so most of my life was centered around the campus and downtown Morgantown.
As for Mon and WVU, I think it is crazy that almost all the Hospital facilities are basically in the same area of town and that the stadium is right there also. Try to get to them from anywhere other than the surrounding neighborhoods and it is a hassle at the best of times; add in a football game, bad weather or even late afternoon traffic and you’d better give yourself plenty of time.
I had forgotten that it was called Vincent Pallotti Hospital, but yes, that is the hospital I remember being located near Arnold Hall. I'm 99% certain the original WVU Hosptial was build in the mid to late 1950s. It was already well established when I first came to Morgantown in 1962.
I heard on 101.9 that talks began about a year ago for the merger.
So now WVUH consists of: Morgantown, Martinsburg, Ranson, Keyser, Glen Dale, Parkersburg, Buckhannon, Bridgeport, Jackson Co, Braxton Co with affiliates in Whetzel and Oakland, MD.
Too bad they didn't scoop up Romney before Valley Health of Winchester acquired them a few years ago. I wonder if WVUH will make a move on WMHS of Cumberland, MD one day.
Looks like Whetzel will no longer be in affiliate status and will be managed by WVU Medicine as of October 1.
Is anyone concerned about a monopoly going on here?
Why would anybody be concerned about a monopoly. In every case, the hospital involved has asked to become part of the network which easily provides far better services and offerings. In some cases, the hospital would have folded without WVU Medicine intervention. There is a growing accumulation of top flight specialists with WVU Medicine, which is recruiting nationally to get staff. I don't think there is a hospital in our little state that wouldn't benefit from such an affiliation.
WVU Medicine has more than 15,000 and growing employees.

One of the articles above (I forget which one) even mentions that without this partnership, there was no way their community would be able to get a cardiologist there let alone a good one. Now because of the partnership they will be getting a cardiologist there 3 days a week.
WVU BOG's have "Approved the lease of property adjacent to Mountaineer Station on Van Voorhis Drive to WVU Medicine for a new 750-space parking facility."
I wonder if this is the parking lot where the medical building is being torn down? However, 750 spots is a lot for that space it would seem and the words "parking facility" sounds more like a parking garage than a lot. Could they possibly fit 750 parking spots into the spot where the medical apartment is now?
Also the WVU BOG "approved amendment of a previous lease to allow construction of a new WVU Medicine Children’s tower."

Sounds like its to be another garage. Maybe it'll connect to Mountaineer Station.
This makes 2 parking facilities WVU Medicine has gotten involved with over the last year, the other being the rumored garage thats going in where the old trailer park used to be on Don Nehlen Drive. This is good news for gameday travelers.
WVU Medicine apparently has broken ground this week on the new parking garage across from the football stadium where the trailer park used to be.
