Thanks for posting this. It wasn't that long ago that I was talking to people here with heart issues that had concerns about a shortage of heart surgeons at WVU. This is really good news.

WVU/Ruby hospital is actually one of the few pleasant surprises about this area Ive had.......Ive been to the emergency room once and my wife twice (since we've been together) and its always speedy and efficient....not to mention my step grandson being a heart patient from birth, everytime it looked bleak the doctors always pulled it off and to this day further surgeries arent even needed that they thought would be required.....when he was first born and I knew very little of Ruby my thought/opinion was always "why dont they send him up to Pittsburgh to a better hospital?" lol, but he was clearly in great hands here.....

WVU Medicine has extended its reach, now reaching into PA.

"The WVU Heart and Vascular Institute, part of Morgantown-based WVU Medicine, partnered with Connellsville, Pa.-based Highlands Hospital to open a clinic to provide area residents with high quality heart and vascular care.

The clinic will be located in Connellsville and treat patients with a variety of conditions, including coronary artery disease, heart rhythm issues and congestive heart failure."

UPMC is feeling the competition in a major way. I noticed they advertised their services in the Morgantown newspaper this past weekend. I've never seen that before. WVU Medicine is growing, not just in stature, but in presence too. Their 8,000+ employees number seems to grow by the month.

With that growth, logically will come growth in medical research.

"WVU Hospitals plans to build a new substance disorder treatment center at Mylan Park. The state Health Care Authority (HCA) recently granted an exemption for a Certificate of Need, which gave WVUH the green light to move ahead with its plans."

This will not be an opioid treatment facility.
