So we are currently living in falling waters, wv (Hagerstown border). My husband has 3.5 years left in military as a station commander. His boss said he could pick wherever he wanted to finish up his time bc he has done so well. We enjoy WV, and would love to stay. My son has extreme medical needs (he doesn’t sit, walk, talk or eat on his own) so Morgantown would make since, since all of his care could be done at WVU. Once he retires he wants to finish his degree (he has about 1.5 years left) up with his GI bill while looking for a job. That’s what we are concerned about. What kind of jobs are abundant or at least obtainable for a middle class family? He has been thinking of finishing his degree in either accounting or administration since that’s what his job has been closely related with. Is this a viable option? Any other suggestions? Thanks

Also, obviously we are a family and have 3 other typical kids from 10, 8, 4 (medical child) and 8 months. I homeschool so districts are only as important if it is a good family location vs young college kid population. I am hoping this will work as the more time we spend in your area the more we really do enjoy it more than the eastern panhandle. I love that I can take him to a hospital with all the specialist he needs while not having to drive alone in Baltimore (or any big city, I just don’t feel comfortable) especially when he is there overnight. Seems like Morgantown is big enough to have all we need while still feeling like a town vs city.

Any thoughts, suggestions are always welcome. Thanks.

The following is only my opinion:

I often visit Northern Virginia. Have you thought about the Winchester vicinity.
There is a huge construction of Amazon coming to the nearby area which will supply many jobs.
With the combination of Great hospitals, job availability and a state that respects its veterans.
I think you will find yourself to be pleasantly surprised and impressed by what it has to offer.
Thank your husband for his service. I have family in the military retired and still serving and they enjoy
the comforts that Virginia has to offer. You are only a hop skip and a jump away. Take a ride and check it out.
Best wishes......

LOL … He lives near Hagerstown, I'm sure he is very familiar with Winchester. Everyone in that area knows all the towns. He wants near a large specialty hospital. Morgantown offers that. No place in the Winchester, Martinsburg, Hagerstown, Chambersburg area has that. And, while housing is not cheap in Morgantown, it is a lot less expensive than anywhere in the DC/Baltimore area.

Next time you come down from New York, you should check out Morgantown. I worked in NY for many years. A lot of former New Yorkers choose Monongalia County as a place to retire.
