I just got a panicked call from my MIL. The wire that was supposed to transfer from my inlaws to the sellers of the house they're supposed to move into TODAY. Was just never sent....the 'funder' neglected to read the second page of the document and the mortgage loan officer for their loan from Wells Fargo has not even bothered to return their calls!!!
They have to be out of their house TODAY and they have all their stuff locked up in a moving truck that will not be able to move them until Tuesday....Wells Fargo idiot claims the wire is pre funded from Fidelity for 6am Monday.
Have any of you heard of such a thing? My in laws are stunned and freaking out.
I'm trying to make headway via every phone number I can at WF....
It's after hours at the bank. They don't work on the weekends. 9-5 is called "Banking hours" for a reason. There is nothing you're going to be able to do until Monday.
Is anyone amazed that Wells Fargo has not bothered to accommodate them with hotel etc. or is this just the way the stupid banks work? Are you all not surprised?

They may pick up the tab once they see their error but like others have said it won't be sorted out until Monday.
I would be shocked to hear to hear Wells picking up the tab on a hotel.
That would be an admission they made a mistake. **r@lls eyes**
But knowing how the big box banks work, the loan officers are so disconnected once the file goes into the closing department. Even if your in-laws did reach him or her, there's nothing he or she can do. It's usually an 800 number with a machine to leave a message. Most banks cut off their wire requests by a certain time. Even something as simple as your in-law's title company forgetting to include their wiring instructions or other required document could have delayed the wire request.
I know this doesn't help, but it does demonstrate why everyone needs a contingency plan. Additional members of the family, like kids and pets, require even more thought.

No the bank will not get them a hotel nor will they reimburse them.
These things happen.
Is it maddening? Yes. Do things like this happen? Yes.
If I understand correctly, this could have been a dry closing with the sellers letting the old folks move in while waiting for the money to transfer. Wouldn't be the first time that happened. Apparently the realtors didn't work this out? Or sellers refused?
At this point the older couple should be settled into a comfortable hotel, told not to worry and to enjoy their little 'vacation' as a brief respite before the stress of moving.
Frankly I'd be phoning their realtors and asking why these details weren't explained to them. And why did nobody check with the lawyer handling the transaction to make sure everything was on track (or explained?)
Anyway the thing to do is chill, relax, soothe everybody's nerves and calmly sort it out. This too shall pass :-)
