We recently purchased a vacation home in Mono county. Our H/O company visited the property and has advised us that they are cancelling our insurance in October unless a modification is made to the home. H/O co have already sent us a refund check on our policy which will cancel in less than 30 days if the improvements are not made (and approved by their underwriting dept). Of course want to avoid any lapse in coverage.
We are targeting to have the work completed in time but are investigating options in case we are not reinstated - for example, if the insurance co standards are different than the county inspector standards even though we have the work done to "code" the insurance co will still not accept. Has anyone dealt with the FAIR insurance plan in CA? How much more expensive is it than other rate plans and how long does it take to get insured by the FAIR plan? Any agents that you can recommend to work with?
