I paid a collection and have A $0 bal receipt from original medical acct. Hosp said they would see collection agency deleted. They have called them 3 times, I have written and they are still showing. Now my LO wants a $0 bal from the collection agency too. Since the haven't responded to months of requests, I have my doubts.
My current bank wants to call them in a conference call.

Shouldn't the receipt be sufficient proof? Far as I know a conf call with any collection agency is a bad idea, let alone them knowing you are trying to get a mortgage.

No, it's common. The Conference Call is called a Credit Report Supplement, which will notate ON the credit report being used for your file that Third Parties (not you or your Loan Officer) confirmed that the debt is paid.

Headache? Yes. But it's a solution.

**I'm assuming that the collection amount is relatively large (+$1,000) and/or is perhaps not notated as a Medical Collection.

Does your newer credit report show the debt balance as $0 ? This should be enough.
I have heard of people paying a fee to remove a paid off medical collection from a credit report. Don't know if it is true.
I think Congress tried to pass legislation requiring all medical debts removed from credit reports because they are not a "planned" expense like a car purchase or credit cards.

I am meeting with bank wednesday. No, its under $200 but I don't believe collection agency listed it as medical. The original hospital is not on my report. There is also another CA that hasn't responded to my letters from months ago. After hours on phone with OC it looks like it may be from not returning a modem in 2004??Orig place sold it yrs ago and cant confirm amt so it may not be the same. They just had address. Bank wants it resolved and it looks outside SOL, CA won't respond, OC sold it so how am I supposed to take care of it?

A collection that is under $200 usually doesn't need to be paid off.

Offer to pay the collection at closing. Unless you have a dispute on the collection then it shouldn't be a problem.

I had a similar issue. My LO wanted it off the report. So I offered to pay in full in exchange for deletion. Got the agreement in writing.
