Situation:
Under contract on house. 2 weeks left until closing. Start new job/career day after closing date. (more money).
Current employer has already filled out VOE written form but doesn't know of job switch yet. I haven't let the lender or anyone know as I don't want to delay on the contract or risk losing the house. Technically I am not changing jobs until after the close date so it shouldn't affect the loan process.
Concerned about giving my 2 weeks to current employer and then the lender does a verbal VOE in the 72 hour window before close date and current employer says I gave my notice. I am tempted to only give my current employer 1 day notice as I don't want to lose the house or extend the close date because then I will have to re-do the loan as I would have switched jobs within the contract term and risk losing the house. The house had 10 showings the first day and multiple offers, and thus I won the offer because of price and quick closing time.
What would you do in terms of giving notice to current employer as I don't want to burn bridges either?
It's not every file, as it's a random check for many lenders, but they could call your job the day of closing to make sure you're still employed before they release the funding number. You need to call your new job and tell them you need to push back your start date so you can give proper notice to your current job... or risk being one of the people where they don't call your job and roll the dice.
If you didn't think he would care, you wouldn't have posted the question. Yes, he's going to care. What if you don't like the new job? You have now become a higher risk of staying employed because of the uncertainty as to whether or not you like the job and stay there.
I guess your agent didn't tell you about all the things you should not do while buying a house, and getting a new job in the middle of processing is one of those things...
You don't have to give 2 weeks. It is customary, but not required. Put in your notice the second you close. Even if it's just a few days. Then explain to your boss why you had to do it. Don't risk your closing getting pushed back.
