We were qualified for a 460k FHA loan. I have a FICO score of 700 and so does my wife. The credit history of my wife is less than a year and she has only been in her job for almost 5 months but she makes around 90k/annum. I have established credit and have been in my job for almost 4 years but I only make 45k/annum. So were told that we don't qualify for a conventional loan. We have 60k that we can use for down payment or closing cost.

The good faith estimate we got is:

Loan type: FHA Purchase
Purchase price: 460k
Loan amount: 423555
Interest rate: 5.85
Term: 30 yr. fixed

Non-recurring costs

Loan origination: 1% 4370
Discount points: 0

Appraisal fee: 750
Credit report fee: 13
Escrow fee: 865
Notary fee: 60
Title Insurance fee: 2467
Recording fee: 65

Up front MIP: 6555
Misc: 1238
TOTAL NON-RECURRING: 16383

......
Recurring costs totaled to 5500

Details of purchase transaction

Downpayment: 9.35% 43k
non-recurring cost (excl UFMIP) 9828
recurring cost 5778
subtotal: 58606

Total cash required for closing 58606

Loan amount detail
Base loan amount: 417k
Plus financed Upfront MIP: 6555
Total Loan amount: 423555

Estimated Monthly payment
P&I: 2580
Property taxes: 397
Hazard Ins: 62.5
Mortgage Ins: 172.5
TOTAL: 3212

Seller paid costs...TOTAL 1088

Is this a good loan or is there a better one out there?

Where in the country are you? That appraisal fee seems very high...

Is your wife new in the country? Is she recently post graduation? Why is her credit history and job history so short?

I think you should try other options as well.

Are you VA eligible? If so, then I would consider going VA.

Your appraisal is high but that maybe common if you live in CA.

Your interest rate maybe a lot higher than 5.875% due to your loan being a FHA Jumbo

We live in California. Her credit history is short because she just came to United States last May 2007.

they usually ask for 12month history.
sometimes they make exceptions....but you will need other compensating factors like reserves, low LTV, and maybe low DTI

So do you think the numbers on the GFE are right? What about the upfront MIP? Is that normal?

the upfront MIP is not a lender fee...it's a mandatory fee charged on ALL FHA loans. It should be 1.5% of the loan amount. You can pay for it upfront or have it rolled into the loan amount.
