I recently refinanced my mortgage. There was an enormous amount of paperwork required. Among other forms, I got a yellow postcard in the mail. It said that it was an important notice regarding my mortgage and an immediate response was needed. It did not say that it was from my bank or the closing company. In fact there was no identifying information about the sender at all, except a phone number.

The card said that it was urgent and time sensitive so I started to dial the number. But something did not seem quite right so I Googled the phone number instead. Google led me to the scam notice link below. The card is identical to the one I received, except that my own bank was listed on the card and there was a different mortgage ID number on it.

Apparently, personal mortgage information is freely available to criminals as well as legitimate businesses. Be careful out there.

this is normal whenever you refinance or get a mortgage. In most states, that is a public record and other companies buy those lists and send out offers, often phrased as vaguely official to try to scare people into contacting them.

You will likely receive multiple similar postcards and letters
