I am starting the mortage loan approval process and the broker wants to see:

1 month of savings account statment and 1 month of checking account statment and the ACCOUNT number must be shown on the statements.

Is it safe to show the account number on the documents? I asked the broker and she said it is a must to verify.

Please help me before I decide to send the docments or not.

Thank you.

The reason for the bank account number is so that the lender can verify your assets. It is standard procedure and they will not and cannot mess with your account in any way, shape or form.

Yes. We used to have to do what's called a "Verification of Deposit". Send a pre-printed form to the bank to verify funds. Very standard procedure.

What they want to see is that the account belongs to you.. Its to keep people from using someone elses account and plugging your name onto the bank sheet for the appearance that the account is yours.

Its a normal part of the loan process nowadays.

What is "coo-coo"? Oh, cuckoo?

Everyone in the world who wants a bank loan or a mortgage company loan has to provide that information, for all the reasons stated above. If you don't provide it, you will be politely asked to leave.

The bank account # is the least of the information you need to worry about... you will need to provide (if you have not) your social security, date of birth, copy of ID and SS Card and much more. Make sure you have a licensed loan consultant that you trust and has safeguards (secure online application, private fax, shredder, filing cabinet, etc) in place to protect you from ID theft.

Its a mortgage, the bank is lending you lots of money... of course they will want to see your personal info and verify it to make sure you are a good risk. Be cautious but as long as they are a professional they will make sure that their clients are protected.
