WASHINGTON – With thousands of fraud investigations under way, the FBI is considering shifting agents away from counterterrorism work to help sort through the wreckage of the financial meltdown.

FBI Deputy Director John Pistole told the Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday that the bureau may reassign some of the positions that were reallocated to anti-terrorism work after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

Good. I hope they nail the greedy crooks, realtors, brokers, banks and anyone even remotely involved. And I hope those miscreants spend decades in jail for what they've helped do to our country.

Surely, it's a convoluted scheme and difficult investigatively, but doesn't the FBI has units of financial experts specifically dedicated to those types of crimes? I say slam shut the jail door and throw away the key.
