I recently got approved for a mortgage to purchase a house in New York. The closing date was supposed to be 3/9 it is now 4/19, the last 2 weeks the banks attorney has been on vacation so I wasn't able to close. Now everyone involved agreed for thursday and the banks attorney is saying that he is extending his vacation and can't do the closing until next week. I'm just curious if anybody else went through this and what my options are at this point. My attorney made it seem as though I have no choice but to go along. Can I ask the bank to use another attorney? Does the bank have to reimburse me any money being that I had to move from my apartment and now must find a new place to stay? Can I threaten the bank that if we don't do this thursday the deals off?

Yes. Maybe(you can ask for credit at closing or for them to pay a portion of your closing costs). and Yes.

The kicker is, they probably have received a better offer on the home, and are trying to drag their feet and try to force you to call the deal off. However, w/ the economy in the situation it's in I'm sure the bank wants to dump the property, it's just at what price. If YOU are really fed up w/ it, and are not that in love w/ the property then demand any monies be returned and walk away.
