Was I dreaming or did I recently read somewhere that the credit WILL be extended for 1 year FOR SERVICEMEN/WOMEN...those having served overseas for a certain period within the last year. I could have sworn I got that info from a link on this forum but maybe it was the RE Forum? Or...maybe I WAS dreaming!!

Be careful. It's for those who served overseas DURING 2009. It's to be sure your service didn't casue you to miss being able to take advantage of the tax credit.

Good deal for me. Just came back from a 3 yr tour overseas (Europe) as a soldier. If I know that it'll be 15k, I may opt to delay my closing somehow.
I bought my 1st home in February (2br 1ba for 135k) and got the 8k credit. I do not believe that i will ever be able to sell this home for more than I paid......hopefully i won't lose money on it but probably will. It is not by fault for the real estate bubble. My parents 3 miles away bought a 4 br 2ba house for 35k 20 yrs ago...now valued at 300k+. 8k isn't even that much of a help, considering.
There are now reports of fraud in the current credit coming out. My guess is this could lead to a big push not to extend it.

Most Govt programs are wide open for fraud & abuse, personally I hope they kill the credit.
Can you imagine the fraud when we all get Obama Care ?
Don't even want to imagine it.
