Is the op doing debt management, or debt settlement? Debt settlement implies that he/she isn't paying all of their debts, but rather settling for a lower sum than what they owe. I think THAT is what people view as negative.
I see the difference and understand now. My mistake.
Many of the companies that run ads on TV and on the Net offer a debt reduction as well as a management program. I would think in today's environment most people who are upside down , are looking to reduce the total debt as well as monthly payments. Lots on money to be made for these " debt management" companies, they are almost like payday loans it looks like. Why get further into debt by adding on expensive service charges with a third party ? Most working class people live from paycheck to paycheck , with little cusion...hopefully things will change some in the future. Other Countries in the First World...the people save for a rainy day, but not in the USA, sad but true.
Is this particular company backed by lawyer in all states? To avoid being sued?
