One the mechanics at my uncle's work has a Grom and I've ridden it a few times. It's not bad. If you just want a in-town runabout, it works pretty well. It'll do suburbs okay although out here we've got a lot of roads people go 50 mph on. It'll do 50 but man does it take long enough to get up there. Where the Grom is really good is under 35. More than that you'd be much better off spending the extra $800 for a CB300F. Actually, I think you'd be better of spending the extra $800 for the CB300F in all cases. Grom is kind of cool as a novelty but the 300F is a much better bike. It rides much better than most scoots do but has none of the practicality.

it doesn't sound much more powerful than a 50cc scooter which tops out at 35 but will hit 40 on a downhill and slowdown on an uphill.

I suspect a 250 would be the minimum size for being able to get on the highway or faster 50mph roads.

As much as I like the Grom; a 150scooter would be a better choice of bike. A Grom will get it off the line, and possibly up hills, and that's about it.

Good little city / neighborhood bike, or a little pit / paddock cruiser (for anyone who races). But I agree with Malloric -- spend the extra $800 and get the 300F. It's better in literally every single way, and can keep up on the freeways.

Or better yet, wait for the BMW G310R to come out. My prediction is that it will be similar to the 300F except better in every way, and I suspect it will have an MSRP in the 5k range.
