I really want to buy a suzuki Burgman 400cc, there price starts out at $7500 but does anyone know how long these scooters last? or how fast they go? im trying to upgrade from my chinese scooter.

1) As fast you'll need to go reasonably on Inter-states. The 400 handles very well whether back roading or on major highways. The Burgmans are top of the line scooters and have an outstanding reputation for reliability.
2) The 2011 B400 w/ABS (definitely get the ABS version) is going in my area (Maryland/southern PA, WVA & VA) for under $6,400 out the door + tax & tags.
I'm a multiple maxi-scooter owner (Piaggio MP3 400, Yamaha TMax (500cc) and Honda Reflex (250cc) ) and have been recently shopping for a Burgman 400 ABS, hence my comments on price.
Just FYI, skip the Chinese scooters. They are not cost effective. The Taiwanese mfg.s (KYMCO, Buddy) do some decent rides but you are better off staying with Suzuki (Burgman), Honda or Yamaha, especially for 250cc and above rides. JMO
I regularly run my Burgman 400 at 90-100MPH indicated. That means what the speedo says not necessarily how fast I am traveling (figure about 10% slower).
It has a bit more in it above that but probably not a whole lot. I've never just held it down to see where it would top out.
Head wind, rider weight and hills will effect your top speed but it can easily handle freeway riding.
I have 4 bikes so I have only put 10,000 miles on mine. No problems except the shuddering caused by the clutch. It is a known issue but not every scoot gets it, doesn't seem to effect much but it can be annoying
Most Japanese built bikes will last quite a long time if they are well cared for - most only need oil and spark plug changes, new drive chain when necessary - but a lot of people neglect the bike and ruin it.
Depending on what you want to do, the Burgman may or may not be what you want to spend your $ on. Just one option would be that you could pick up a good used Sportster for that amount, while scooters put you firmly in the Mod crowd, a Sporty would just as firmly group you with the more testosterone-laced Rockers. For sheer practicality, for less than your budget, you could find a well-cared-for older 4-pot Gold Wing, very comfortable and capable bike, lot of storage on it as it comes out of the box, I defy you to wear it out.
I would say probably the fastest 400 cc bike would be the Yamaha sport bike built in the mid 80's - at one time considered the best handling bike anywhere.
You really don't need to buy new to get a good bike - there are thrashed examples for sale of course, but there are a lot of well-cared-for bikes that have been garaged and many have surprisingly low miles.
A recent Rider magazine has articles on the Burgman, I have a copy at home waiting for me to find time to read it.
Yep, high end (Burgman 650s) list at close to ten grand. Depends on what you're looking for in a ride. I'm stuck with autos, an old 'Nam injury makes foot shifting not an option.
If you think "scooters" as being low speed, diddly squat rides, you are seriously miss-informed. My Yamaha TMax 500 will blow off any Harley at the stoplight and do much better in the twisties.
PS- I also own a Honda VFR1200F DCT, its a fine ride but I prefer my scooters for general riding.
The big scooters really move, and have storage to boot. They're not really "for me" but they're perfect for the ride type of buyer. A friend of mine absolutetly LOVES scooters, when he thinks of getting the large ones I typically respond with "why not just get a bike" but you really can't beat the storage space. The smaller ones are fun for putting around town, but i wouldn't want to be on one for long hauls.
what about the yamaha majesty? there $6500 here in North Texas..
