I always wished BMW had imported their old C1 scooter to N.America.
Alas we can only dream of how much fun it would have been.

I'd much rather have one of the new ones.

I always thought the C1 was an interesting concept, but there is just something a little too golf cart...ish to me. Almost like a meter maid scooter. I love the new design. I may have to sell my 1970 HD XLCH to buy it. My wife says I have too many toys already.

Have you ridden a 650 Burgman yet Doc?

If not,go ride one and the Beemer too and see what you think before purchasing the BMW without a comparison.

MY wife had 21,xxx on her 400 with no probs when we sold it other than a bit of chatter at take off till 10mph that developed around 18,xxx miles...I ended up with about the same on one 650 with zero probs and then later I put around 16,xxx on another 650 with zero trouble.

I can't say that about the Silverwing 600s though...we put around 15,xxx on one of them and had some probs with it.

If you are wanting the Beemer for the name only,cool...but if you want a scooter to ride try the Burgman too.

I have ridden with people who ride Burgmans, and I have always liked them. I will definitely do comparisons before buying anything. I can't say that I like the BMW for the name "only", but more the technology that invariably comes along with the name. But again, I don't buy anything sight unseen.

These look more like motorcycles. Where I live, scooters are pretty popular, but they are very basic 150cc motors, nothing fancy. If you're going to by a scooter like the ones here, why not just get a full-fledged motorcycle?

I have 2 "full fledged" motorcycles already, as well as a Vespa. I like scooters better for city riding. The small wheels make them easier to turn on 90 degree angles, and I don't have to keep up shifting and down shifting at every traffic light.

I agree. Scooters like this BMW blur the product lines way,way to much.

Like most riders if I want a motorcycle I will buy a motorcycle. If I want a scooter I will buy a scooter not a wanna be motorcycle!

Regarding why buy a scooter as opposed to a motorcycle - with few exceptions (Honda DN-01, VFR1200F DCT & the Aprilla Mana 850), very few automatics are available. (I may have missed some, think Suzuki made a 1300 electric shift, but whatever).

Old war injuries make shifting not really an option, my ankle can't handle more than a 1/2 hour shifting so I'm REAL interested in the new stuff coming out. My current rides, TMax, MP3 400, Reflex and 1/2 ownership of a 1200 DCT are pretty good but it would nice to have some other choices.

The BWM & forth coming Honda Integra are looking good for a mid sized auto ride for we old crips. My b**** is that ABS is widely available in Europe on many scooters that don't offer it on US versions. If you've ever had to do a panic stop on wet roads dodging a deer you get ABS religion real quick. JMO
