I've seen both; heavy set men riding and fit men with a female blonde dressed in leathers/boots looking really dynamite. My guess would be the heavy riders are drinking too much beer on the weekends where they all gather to socialize.

I am morbidly obese and if I tried to ride a Harley I would crash and burn since I haven't ridden a motorcycle in over 30 years. I really need to get busy with some of this

Distinguished by our loud exhausts; enabling people to hear us and see us better than running us over,
But now a days harleys are not the only loud motorcycles around,

And pinning overweight on just a harley rider say compared to a stick rib thinnie who rides a kawasaki, just plain silly I tell ya,

da jammer, sweetie you are not morbidly obese bro,

Where I used to live, the guys that road Harley's were young and very fit. I used to live in the Ventura County area bordering LA County. They used to ride their Harley's every Sunday down Kanan Rd. toward Malibu and meet up at the same place. Those guys were HOT!!

But not the Hells Angels in Ventura. Those guys were not HOT. They were YUCK!
Sorry Hells Angels but you guys need to workout or something!

Being married to a biker, I know. Their main activity with the HDs is riding around and then stopping off for breakfast or a road house for food and beers. Very food centric culture.

Well, at least now he thinks of breakfast I bet!! I'm also married to a biker for 24 years and it used to be bar to bar riding none of the guys had a weight problem being in our 20's was total energy in it's self and living the biker life style was enough to keep you skinny. Now that were older and few left to ride with it's mostly food and a few beers the cops still love to pull over the biker with the "APE HANGERS & LONG HAIR".

Now I do see over weight biker's and these are not the biker's of the 60's and 70's. I think it's to get the chicks!!

You don't need to be terribly fit to ride a HD compared to say a sportbike (the anti-HD). Sportbikes are tall and have a high center of gravity on top of that so they are harder to push around and mount (it just gets worse if you're on the short side). HD's are much heavier but they are so low to the ground that its easy to manhandle them.
As for something like a Honda Goldwing (the largest production bike I can think of) I got on one once and was surprised by how light it felt to handle because of again the low center of gravity.
Probably cultural too, HD riders seem laid back and sport/standard riders more uptight.

Because Vespa's aren't built to handle it!
