When I had dirtbikes in the 1970's they all had kick starts on them only and now I found out most of the Yamaha's and Honda's bikes and others are electric start only. I would like both electric and manual but you cann't have it that way. Yamaha told me it's not a good idea to push start the new bikes because it break gears in the transmission.

Kickstarts are outdated, I havent known any bikes recently that have them. I did work with a guy who had a Yamaha bike that had both kick and electric start, I forget the model though. I believe it was built in 97 or 98 or something like that, it was styled like a cafe-racer, thats all I remember.

kick starters have been gone for a long time but i don't think you would hurt it by push starting, my bike has 115hp If that doesn't hurt the trans. me pushing it sure won't.

Don't know why they would say that. The gears are already engaged. Granted, trying to start the bike in first gear may be a bit extreme starting it in third shouldn't be a problem. It may be a bit more violent on the clutch assembly than the trans. By the way I have a cure for your problem. You can buy any late model Harley Big Twin and add a kick start conversion kit. Now you'll have the best of all worlds, #1 a Harley, #2 a Kicker and #3 Electric Start and #4 if you want, Reverse gear kit!
