MOUNT AIRY, N.C. — In his nearly 50 years as an avid motorcyclist, Grady Howard has roared down the tobacco roads of North Carolina and through the mountains of old Kentucky, all with his wife, Barbara, tucked behind him. But with a balky left leg and myriad other maladies, he knew the only way to stay wild was to add a wheel.

Good for them! If this is someone's choice of recreation to stay active and enjoy the outdoors,so be it! Although trikesdo have their handling limitations, they are probably still much safer for people who for whatever reason no longer choose the two wheeled route.

My wife and I talked about this problem. We figure when we can not ride a bike, with the leaning around the corners, anymore we will just get a very used Miata. Without the leaning and ocassional scraping it just ain't motorcycling but driving a car without any protection.

Id much rather a convertible than a trike when I reach that age. By no stretch of the imagination is a trike close to a bike IMHO.

I've heard trikes described as "All of the disadvantages of a car combined with all of the disadvantages of a motorcycle, with none of the advantages of either."

But I think they're still pretty cool.

If the day comes when I came hold up a bike, I'd much rather ride a trike than some lame ass Miata.

Yeah, a convertible is nothing like I would imagine a trike would be.

Why can't people just accept trikes for what they are???

It just seems strange how bent out of shape people sometimes get over other people's choices in life.

Very confining (we checked them out). Even if you are on three wheels, you can still bend your feet back and put them on the down pegs, or front pegs. You can stretch your legs at a light or lean down and tug your pant leg down if it gets pulled awry by shifting. Stopping at a scenic overlook, there's no disentangling from a seat belt or groping your butt because it fell asleep being plopped into a car seat. Shoot, you can even just pull up to the edge of the overlook to see the view when you are on a bike.

We looked at the pros 'n cons of trikes vs convertibles. We're going to stick to the true method of riding in the wind for as long as possible, even if it means three wheels.

Yup. It is what it is to make my riding partner and I happy. Fock whatever anyone else thinks or says.

If that's what he wants to ride, more power to him.

I was just being practical. If I had the bucks I would have LANDINGEARS put a set of stability wheels on what ever bike I had. Google them.

I am selling the big 1980 KASAURUS (1300 CC KAWASAKI SIX) because I can no longer control the thing at tricky stop signs etc. The combination of short legs, top heavy tall bike and being AARP bait does not work.
