was at a Suzuki dealership the other day that sells bikes and this guy around 20 years old was asking elementary questions about a GSXR1000 such as "is it 1 down and 5 up?", the salesman was trying to steer him to a 600 but the guys argument... well, he was 6ft 2in tall and needed a 1000 "at least".
My opinion regarding more powerful bikes as starters is that you need to treat it with respect like you would a sports car. Just because a sports car is fast doesn't mean you need to drive it fast. When I bought my bike the dealer tried talking me into something lighter but I just felt it would be a waste of money because I really wanted a full sport bike. I had the bike for 8 year without incident- I took it slow and learned the bike over the years and always rode within my limits. I say go for it but only if you will respect it.
