I'm clueless. I bought motorcycle from a private seller on Craigslist and have the title with sellers signature notarized on the back. I have proof of insurance. Now what? Can everything be done during the same visit at the DMV? I already made a 2 hour visit to the DMV not realizing that the title needed to be notarized.. I'd like to avoid another wasted trip.

Does state inspection come after the bike is registered? Or is that something I need before going back to the DMV?

This is in the state of North Carolina. I've also posted this thread there, so sorry for the duplicate but I figured the guys in this sub forum could give me some answers too.

You need the notorized title from the seller (his/her signature), notorized title application (your signature, can be done at DMV), and proof of insurance. DMV will process the title transfer but you cannot register the bike until it is inspected, you can buy a 10 day pass from them for $5. Inspection is super easy at the place I used. They spent more time typing into the computer than the actual inspection. If it passes you take the inspection report to DMV to register and get your plate. Done.

stop in at your local DMV office. they have most of the papers required.
but seller MUST have a valid title in there name.
