Dear all,
I bought led headlight bulbs for my 2006 Yamaha Big Bear 400. They look different than what I have in it now. Although the socket looks like the one in the manual.
Has it been modified? What bulbs so I have in at the moment?
I hope someone can help me as I am confused.

Thanks!!
Eric

looks like the Original headlight bulb was a high/low beam Halogen Bulb with a typical 3-wire connector.

The LED bulb pictured may fit in the socket, but it's got an entirely different base/connector.

Probably best for you to replace the Halogen Bulb with an exact replacement style bulb rather than modifying your ATV to use the LED bulb.

PS: on these Halogen bulbs, it's best not to handle the glass area with bare fingers. Always hold them by the base or if you must touch the glass bulb, use a clean tissue to keep your fingers away from the bulb.

If you do touch the bulb, or think you might have done so, wipe it clean after it is socketed. If you don't, the high temperature of the bulb combined with fingerprint oils will etch the glass resulting in stress cracks and early failure.

the problem here is that the "lamp" unit is an assembly into which the bulb is installed; ie, you can't reach the bulb "after it is socketed".

one must be certain that the bulb is untouched or clean it before installing.

Meh, splitting hairs... you can't clean it once it's fit into the reflector assembly. But on some vehicles you can connect the bulb to the socket/wiring harness before assembling it into the reflector, where you Can clean after connection.

The point is the same, either don't touch (I use nitrile gloves), or clean before it's inaccessible... or do both.

I wash all my bulbs off regardless if I touched them with alcohol swabs.

I recently swapped out the headlight bulb on my motorcycle with a high/low LED replacement. No mods required. Light is brighter and whiter, aim is important as low beam is very focused. I plan to change out the trucks to LED soon as well. My wife rode my bike and wants me to change out hers. Her bike has a sealed beam so I will need a new reflector/lens as well for her.
