When Buell was shut down by Harley-Davidson back in 2009, we were sad to see the innovative American sportbike company go. Founder Erik Buell's dream got a new lease on life when it reappeared as Erik Buell Racing, but in April of 2015, the company filed for bankruptcy and closed down. Now, EBR is back again, having just begun production at its plant in East Troy, Wisconsin. And we're cautiously optimistic.

Something has always intrigued me about an American-made sportbike but beyond that I've never really seen an EBR that I was really interested in. Maybe if they came out with a modern version of the Buell Blast I may be inclined to at least see what it's about.

The prices will be more realistic this time around. 13k and 14K for their two models, IIRC.

I ran across this posted last month. The bike pictured in the article looked like a big ol' heavy sport bikes to me. I dont see this going far with these models.

1. All EBR’s debts have been paid off and they are now headed into the future with a clean slate. All necessary parts and production tooling have been moved into one building (this one), while excess equipment is to be sold from the former factory building next door.

2. EBR currently has a total staff of 12, three of whom are assembling bikes, with one man building engines. More will be hired as production gets rolling. Planned production is about 500 bikes per year, and more than 30 dealers have already signed on.

3. Only two models will be available at present, 75 percent of which will be the naked 1190SX, which will retail for $12,995. The faired, pure sport 1190RX model will sell for $13,995. Steve Smith, the new CEO, pointed out that this new lower pricing makes them considerably less expensive than the prestige European sport bikes with which they directly (and favorably) compete.

There are 3 X1's on Craigslist in my area ranging in price $2300 to $3800. I've notices Buell's dont seem to sell very fast on CL in my area.
