A friend who had never sailed before won one of those little Sunflower sailboats, which are hollow and unsinkable. For its maiden voyage he put it into a rough Lake Michigan, right in front of a beach full of sunbathers. With 15 minutes, it had flipped over and thrown him and his pal into the water. The second that happened, literally hundreds of people on the beach simultaneously jumped up, and a few dived in to help. He waved them off saying he was okay, between his own laughs. He was able to right the boat from the water. One of the funniest things I've ever seen.
Not a sail boat but a buddy has a 28 foot SeaRay docked. Went for a run came back. A day later the harbor master called said his boat sank. A exhaust hose popped off and finally the bilge pumps couldn't keep up. Sank it to the upper deck.
A hole in the water surrounded by wood into which you pour money
I was also told the only way not to lose a fortune selling a boat was to trade it in on a bigger one.
