I've been riding 35 years, and I still laugh at the guys that buy Harleys. Mostly for the Im cool factor. Old azz technology with geezer appeal. Too many good bikes out now that make them look ancient.
I'm not a Harley guy, but I disagree - at least in part...
Harley has been forced to start building good motorcycles. They're world class - finally.
On the other hand, if somebody is going to be a huge d-bag poser, he'll always do it on a Harley. Middle-aged guy who has never ridden before? No problem! Buy a new Harley (and every Harley accessory ever made) and ride 1,000 miles to Sturgis, hopefully making it there alive.

When they make this, and street legal. Yes I will buy one.
Well, they upped the CC's, made it street legal, and offered it for sale...I think you'll have to buy used at this point, as i don't think it's still being offered...I did a test ride a couple years ago, it didn't really impress me. My current bike at the time was an SV650, so I already had a "naked V-twin" street bike...and given the extra 550cc's I was expecting a bit more "go power"....should have tried a buell.

Are you sure about that? Veteran Harley riders, riders who've been riding HD's for decades, claim the new ones are less reliable than older models. They also claim the engineers at HD know about the reduction in quality as it's, allegedly, a form of planned obsolescence that allows them to profit from a customers misfortune. The more a customer spends on parts and labor, the more money local dealers and MoCo makes.

No, I'm not sure about that. I'm going by what some of my buddies - old school Harley guys - have been saying. These guys don't necessarily like the new Harleys, but they do talk about them being better bikes.
Truth is, Harleys have never been known for their reliability, but that's part of the charm. The old school guys that love them are constantly working on them - kind of like the Air-Cooled Volkswagen Bug dudes. A '72 VW Beetle doesn't hold a candle to a '72 Oldsmobile, but the Bug IS easier to work on.
It's likely that part of the issue is that WHEN something goes wrong, the new Harleys have to go to the dealership for service. Whereas, with the old ones, when something broke down or wore out, you got out your tools and fixed it.
I own a Victory Cross Country Tour so i am a little bias. But Victory is not a Harley and is never going to be one. thank god. it does not look like hd, does not sound like hd and does not ride like a hd. does that make it better ? well for me yes. Harleys are built for there customers, classic style, classic sound and vibration at idle this what Harley riders want.I am ok with that. but for me i prefer my Vic. now is Victory going after the Harley market, sure they are, so is Honda, Kawaski, Bmw and every one else. personally I believe Harleys are cramped for taller riders, ya ya I know there is a lot of big guys riding Harleys. but if they took a Cross Country for a ride they would see what i mean. Harleys also build one of the worst v-twins on market. but for the most part it is reliable and delivers a considerable amount of low end torque. Harley could fix this week link in their bikes, overhead cams, wider crank angle, counter wieghts, better cooling system, all or any of this stuff would make Harleys better. but would cost Harley lots of customers, sound, vibration and style would change, and there motors are getting the job done it would be stupid to change. I read a lot of these forums and a lot Harley riders are respectful of us victory riders but most trash talk about my bike of choice. Harley riders want what they want I get it that's fine. but text ride a victory and you will understand why I want a Victory.
I'm not especially interested in slow bikes, and would pass on both the Victory and the Harley and go right for the bad boy in town. Triumph Rocket III. 2300cc.
Go check out the new Polaris Indian and you won't have much use for HD or Victory.
