There are 2 4-wheelers that have been sitting at my Dad's that have not moved in at least 6 years, much less cranked and ran. They have been covered with a tarp. What would be involved in getting these back running? I haven't seen their condition but I'm interested in them now that I have a son and am only coaching 1 school sport and have more time to spend with him. Trying to weigh costs to fixing these and purchasing new or newer ones. One is a late 90's Yamaha 250 Timberwolf. The other is a Suzuki, but not sure of exact model. It is a tad smaller than the other. Also, would it be worth the cost of taking them to a dealer or could I get better estimates from an individual or smaller place for the work?
heh, 6 years and probably left with fuel in the carbs? They won't run without a carb clean.
OP, skip the dealers, chances are good they wouldn't even look at them anyway (too old, they tend to ignore anything past 3~4 years). Find a local independent, you'll get faster, better and cheaper service. I just refurbished my in-laws Honda that hadn't been used in 2 years. Took ~4 hours, clean the carbs, replace all fluids, needed a fuel line and new air filter (mice) but started and ran very well. Tires are a different story, but I offered my time/experience not major parts replacement. I'd expect ~$200 per to get them running again, FAR cheaper than buying anything else.
