I've had six bikes over the years and this is the first time I have dropped a bike Rats!!! I have a new 09 Silverwing which I just love. A few of us from our group were riding last Thursday. We were on a back road and the guy behind me stopped to look at the creek. I stopped my bike and the road was crowned. It was tight to get the side stand down. I put it back up and just waited for him. He called out to look at something and I stepped off the bike thinking my side stand was down... Talk about a "senior moment" well of course the bike started down and I grabbed but couldn't hold it. The bike and I both went down. I had all my gear on which was good and was only sore the next day. I posted this on a scooter site and was shocked to hear the stories about dropping bikes...you have one???

I was at the beach one day checking out the surf and some guy pulls up on a brand new sport-bike. The guy just got off his bike and walked away without putting the stand down ! The bike stayed up for about one or two seconds and he was a few steps away when it went crash.
Everyone who saw it started busting up laughing including me !

I got home from a ride yesterday and pulled into the garage. I shut down the bike, flipped off the fuel line, and took off my helmet and glasses. Then I went to step off my bike and she started leaning more than usual.

That's when it dawned on me that I didn't put the stand down.

It took every ounce of my being to get my balance back and pull that bike back to it's upright position before it went down. Geesh! That was a strain to say the least.

Sorry to hear that
Ive crashed more times than I can count.
Twice on the road, about 3,0000,00,000 times in the dirt.
My two that should have never happened were a brand new
Yamaha YZF 600 that was a week old and I just got finished
polishing, I moved it forward a little and went to put the wax
away, I was about 20 ft from the bike when it lazily fell over.
I didnt make sure the side stand was fully locked. Another time
was my Sportster. I was talking to friend of mine I met by chance
on a back road in Delaware. We talked for about 20 minutes and
he said he had to go so he reached to shake my hand. I had to
stand up and reach but I totally forgot I was on my bike. When I
stood up and reached, the bike fell and I couldnt hold it. ouch.
A few times on loooong road trips Ive pulled up to stop lights after
long stretches and only remembered to put my feet down when the
bike started to tilt
I guess when you ride for a while, its inevitable. Im glad you werent
hurt and I hope you can polish the mighty Silverwing back up to its former
glory

I blew away a curve going too fast and my bike and I flew over and into some bushes. That was bad enough but a VW Bug full of smart alec gackers went by laughing their asses off at me ! I guess I deserved it.

Here are two pics of my Suz DR 650 that I had to sell last year, .

I talked to a guy at the dealership when I was there on Saturday. He had a big Goldwing and said he was ready for a trip and had it all packed up. He was sitting on it ready to go and then remembered he had his sunglasses in the back. He said he just got off to get them and didn't put the stand down...down it went. Boy and once they start to go it's sure hard to stop them.....

rickers: That looks like a fun bike. How was it on pavement?

driftwood: I hope the guy's Gold Wing wasn't scraped up too much.

He said those side pegs they have really seem to keep most of the damage away. Wish they had those on the smaller bikes....

You had a Senior moment?
And you just now dropped a bike? What took you so long?
I dropped my 1st one 40 some years ago when I was a young whipper snapper.
Be proud. It took you a long time to do what most of us old dudes did decades ago.
Ride safe.

I had a DR just like rickers. I raced it in off -road events
on the weekends, and rode it to work on monday
The best kept secret in MC'ing ! Really
It would go 65 no problem, but the only issue I had with
mine was on long trips the seat wasnt too pleasant and the
huge thumper put some wicked vibrations into the bars.
There's ways to lessne it though, I just didnt worry about it.
To stay mildly on-topic. I dropped this bike more times than
I could count and had it burried in mud up to the carb and
it never stopped running. A truly great all purpose bike
