Poor ABC is pretty well guaranteed to be stuck with one of the lowest-rated Academy Awards broadcasts in recent memory this coming February, thanks to Monday's announcement that Anne Hathaway and James Franco will host the trophy show.

haven't people figured out by now that the issues w/ the Oscars aren't just the hosts? it's the whole dang show! it's not going to help that, AFAIK, there are no real Oscar worthy films this year, other than some kid movies (I'd like to see How to Train Your Dragon nominated)

Yes.
And it was kind of a slow movie season this year, though there are a few potentially good ones still coming.
I actually like both James Franco as well as Anne Hathaway, but hosting alone does not carry the Oscar program.

Do people watch the Oscars because they want to see the host? Silly me, I thought it was about the movies.

I hear some people are already raving about Black Swan. its from the director who did Requiem for a Dream and stars Mila Kunis. something about psycho ballerina, IDK, but still might get a Best Picture nod in this dull year

All these movie award shows account for about 10% of all movies made for the time frame. Just because they are in the list of "best picture" or whatever it may be doesn't mean much.

Am not familiar with James Franco, but Hathaway is lovely and I would actually watch it for her hosting alone. But as others have pointed out, its not merely the hosting that brings in the viewers.

Anne Hathaway is stunning. I don't see her being a detriment.
