For some reason I want to say it was Bulletproof Monk (I think that is what it was called, with Sean William Scott and Chow Yun Fat). Does anyone know the movie I'm thinking?

What are you talking about? I don't believe Bulletproof Monk had such a beginning at all. It had an evil Nazi officer (typical evil character of the 1930s-40s in Hollywood flicks) chasing the bulletproof monk for the immortality spell or whatever the tattoo was.

What type of movie was it, a thriller or an action flick?

Probably action, but maybe thriller. I was even thinking Hell Boy since it had the Nazi characters, but I don't think that is it either. It starts off showing portraits of the I think either the dictators or their countries with a kill count.
