[quote=janelle144;18588374]Rats were a meta fore. I didn't read the book so not sure why they could not afford a cleaner sofa. Hey, a cheap throw would have been better than the filthy cushions. They could be covered up. His house was nice. I guess one had to guess how cold it was since they didn't say they were cold or if they did I missed it. I know movies need to condense a lot to get to the main story so probably discussions about the heat wasn't included.

Do you mean metaphor? I don't know what you mean.

My husband and I were just talking about that movie so it's funny to suddenly see a discussion of it. We're trying to decide if it's worth seeing so I'd be interested in what people have to say about it.

Yep, metaphor---never trust spell check. It's worth seeing but I don't know how it won best pic. It's interesting for the history of it. I need to research more about the people involved so that is a good sign of an interesting movie.

I just watched it 3 nights ago and enjoyed the acting...didn't pay much attention to the set though. Overall...I'd say I'll watch again since I downloaded it for free.

Remember it was set in the 1930s when the world was barely recovering from the Great Depression. Most people in England or America couldn't afford much.
