We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a saltshaker half-full of cocaine, and a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers... Also, a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether, and two dozen amyls. Not that we needed all that for the trip, but once you get into locked a serious drug collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can.
I'm an absolute fan. Read "Gonzo" last year, a compilation of snippets said and recorded about Thompson by those who knew him. Compiled, I believe, by some Rolling Stones folks. Great read.
I read the book years & years before the movie came out, and was impressed on how close the movie paralleld what I imagined from the book. And how they based some of the acting on Ralph Steadmans' illustrations.

For sure, and Del Toro was pretty amazing as well. He had to gain like 40 pounds and learn how to act "loafy". Every time I watch this movie i have trouble believing those two are sober, lol. Way too convincing. Watch Del Toro's action and emotions, A lister for sure.
