Years ago I read the book that this is based on, The Long Walk. It was unforgettable. A small group escapes the Soviet Gulag in Siberia, trekking over a thousand miles into Mongolia, crossing the Gobi desert, into Tibet, and finally, freedom in India.

The film does this incredible story justice. You won't be disappointed.

I saw the movie a few days ago. Very good movie and very moving. I want to say somewhere I read they walked 4000 miles perhaps I read it wrong. Just shows what a human being is capable of doing to survive. I do recommend this movie but I have to admit I was glad when it was over. I don't know if its all the commericals or all the previews of up coming movies. I just felt like I was in the theater for so long I wanted to get up and get going.

I haven't seen it yet but it looks like a gripping movie ( though I am not a big fan of Colin Farell) though the controversy here in Britain ( not sure whether this has also happened in the US) is that Slavomir Rawicz the author of the book , the movie is based on never made that journey and either completely made it up or used someone else's epic journey to put himself at the centre of the story.

A visual feast while celebrating the incredible resilience of the human spirit and the will to survive against almost impossible odds.

Highly recommended!

Just saw this, and was really impressed. Both impressed by the true-life story (of course) and the fact that they managed to make such a good movie which is mostly just about endless plodding and hardship. Kind of makes you ashamed of all the little things we complain about, doesn't it?
