My 11 yr old and I watched the Moon-Spinners (1964) last night. He's suspicious of "old stuff", but really liked this movie. I think Haley Mills helped, and Eli Wallach played a great bad guy.
Anyone else have any recommendations for older movies their kids enjoyed?
My daughter ,at that age loved several of the older Disney films, especially ones that child actor Kevin Cocoron was in.
The ones she especially liked were
1) "Toby Tyler "
2) "Swiss Family Robinson"
3) "Old Yeller
She also loved "Forrest Gump " at that age ... and still does.
She loved the music in the film, the shots of Savannah ( a favorite town of ours ) and the fact that despite Forrest being a little "slow" mentally , he had a very full and meaningful life.
Being the big sister , to a brother with autism, she firmly believes that her brother will have the same due to this film.
My kids really like those old Disney films, live action ones. Shaggy dog, Flubber, Ugly Dachshund, etc.
And they love all those old Japanese Godzilla/monster movies.
To Kill A Mockingbird. A must-see classic for all ages.
It's A Wonderful Life. My kids watched this for the first time last Christmas. They didn't want to at first, because it was "old" and "black and white." But they loved it.
Harvey. Another classic. Younger kids might not get some of the nuances, but an 11 year old should be fine.
Pride of the Yankees, Willy Wonka, Wizard of Oz, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Heidi, Dumbo, Bambi, Miracle on 34th Street, The Adventures of Robin Hood...
The last two movies are not exactly ancient, but might appeal to someone who likes The Moon Spinners. I remember The Moon Spinners so well! I eventually bought the book.
