Director Adam Shankman (who brought us Hairspray) is working on a movie adaptation of the Broadway musical Rock of Ages for Warner Bros. He will direct and choreograph the a rock-themed 80s love story. It's confirmed that Actor Tom Cruise is on board the project: he will play Jaxx, who sings Bon Jovi's "Wanted Dead or Alive" in the original theater musical. The cast is also likely to include Mary J. Blige, Gwyneth Paltrow, Russell Brand, and Alec Baldwin. The film is listed by IMDb for a release in 2012.

For those who don't know, Rock of Ages is a musical built around classic rock hits from the 1980s, especially from the famous glam metal bands of the decade. The musical features songs from Styx, Journey, Bon Jovi, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, Steve Perry, Poison and Asia, among other well-known rock bands.
