I saw the last 30 minutes of this movie while flipping through the channels one day about a year or two ago.

It seemed a bit confused, but because the subject was worlds colliding, I decided to buy a copy... then I forgot. About a week ago, somehow I was reminded and made the purchase.

Overall I thought it was interesting. But I did have a few observations:

Spoiler
  • Justine's Boss? What was his deal and why was she suddenly so mad at him? I did not catch anything in the dialog, and he was an off duck to start with. Maybe the point was that he was abusing her?
  • The messed up parents. I assume they were in the movie just to emphasize that melancholia is/can be inherited?
  • Why at the end did they have to add in a "spooky" extra-sensory element to Justine? I liked and accepted the fact that as doom approached, she became more calm (because she actually welcomed death), even as her sister flew apart. Adding the spookiness just cheapened the film for me.

I don't know if you have to be brave to see the movie but it was a good movie I thought, and different, in a good way.
