I'm sort of new to this forum but I'm a huge Sci-Fi fan! The ones that stick out in my mind (and yes, its hard to just choose one) are:

1. Gattaca
2. Subject Two - really cool movie you need to see it.
3. Terminator - ALL the Terminators

I'm also a big fan of the zombie and apocalyptic movies also!

^^LOL. I'll toss a really old movie out for you, then: Metropolis. It's more social fiction than science fiction, more social engineering than mechanical engineering, but has scientific elements nonetheless, and explore's science's effects on humanity.

And then there's always Melies' A Trip to the Moon.

The Day the Earth Stood Still.

There are so many others...I've loved them all, ranging from Alien/Aliens to Star Wars to The 5th Element. But imo, The Day the Earth Stood Still was one of the earliest thinking sci-fi movies.

Terminator II, but my vote probably should not count because apparently I have not seen most of the movies listed in this thread, not even Alien ..but then again sci-fi is not my most favorite genre (LOVE The Terminator series though).

I promise to check out the entire "Alien" series in the next few weeks !

Check more of them out and you may become a convert to Sci-Fi.
When watching the first "Alien" be afraid, very afraid.

If you liked Arnie in Terminator, check him out in"Predator". He was even better.

Definitely an incredible movie. Unmatched as of today.

The Day the Earth Stood Still was also a classic although the 1950s produced several.

There have been a lot of very nice little films that are based on science fiction themes, that are a lot better than the in-your-face sci-fi scenarios. Such as Denzel Washington's "Deja Vu" and Nicolas Cage's "Next", both of those having to do with time travel.

Well, if "Terminator" is science fiction, then maybe "Strange Days" qualifies similarly, cause boy do I love that movie...Ralph Fiennes best movie ever. Tom Sizemore is sick in that movie. Angela Bassett's 2nd best movie...great cast, great story

You can actually stop after the second movie. The first two are almost perfect classics. Everything after that was junk.
