Pick your number one favorite Sci-Fi film of all time that is not a horror movie, even though there may be gory scenes or scary aliens. (Oops "Aliens")

Science fiction movies are like potato chips: You can't pick just one.

Blade Runner, easily, for its perfectly conceived plot, visual concepts, incredible detail, and the profound questions it asks. I say that because science fiction is often a pretty lazy genre. Its fans will pretty much buy a ticket to anything as long as there as spaceships in it, even if we're talking about Revell models being obviously dangled from fishing line.

Star Wars? Wildly uneven. I don't care how wonderful the special effects were. Episodes I, II, and III were just embarrassing soap operas.
Dune? Badly done and incoherent.
The Abyss? Very cool until the Godawful ending. Really? I left the theater just wanting to sue someone.
Terminator? Hmmm. Robot comes to Los Angeles. Lots of chase scenes and shooting. The end.
Avatar? Awfully cool visual effects. Too bad the plot was stolen from Ferngully.

Blade Runner is head and shoulders above all these.
