True Grit, because it was based on a favorite novel.

I gotta agree with da jammer. I've watched it a pile of times and have to think that the Duke knew he was on death's door and made a movie that would be his last hurrah. I just like everything about his style, demeanor, personna, but still like his last the best.

I liked "The Shootist" as well, but I really also like "The Cowboys" from 1972.

The Quiet Man...Sean Thornton and Mary Kate...such great characters!
With the beautiful countryside of Ireland as the setting. Couldn't ask for more!

One thing I acquired from my father was his extensive collection of John Wayne movies.

My favorite would have to be

The Green Beret's

Only because i am from a military family and have a lot of relatives (mnale and female)
that served in Viet Nam and a few that did 2 or 3 tours over there

But i do like almost all of his movies
the Quite man being another favorite (hey i am Irish)
