@ Nat_at: Sounds like you don't want to go see most any zombie movie.
The details of the how or why there are zombies are less important to me - I'm more in to seeing how the survivors interact and fare. I liked 28 days later and do like walking dead because of their smaller more local approach. So I guess I get where you're coming from, but when you are dealing big budget Hollywood movie you know they gotta show landmarks toppling and involve the government so some people can make suggestions about the political slant underneath.
So yeah, from your checklist and from me never having read the book or seen the movie yet - I think you won't like it.

I just think the wait for a thinking persons zombie movie( or TV series) has been going on for way too long. 28 days and the first Resident Evil weren't bad and explored the genre in an original way, but its been a desert creatively ever since, including the sequels.
It just looks like this breaks absolutely no new ground. Its bigger, but still unoriginal. And every time I hear that " a virus" has turned people into undead( not homicidal mindless but still living killing machines) I just want to off myself with a bullet to the head. That premise is beyond lame. Its quasi retarded.
And why do zombies kill the living but then stop and ignore each other once they're dead. If somebody is thinking "They have a primitive urge to feed remaining", that's crap. They'd be tearing into each other non stop to feed. It wouldn't matter if they were zombies or the living, they'd get nibbled on.
So either a zombie is still biologically alive and a virus has scrambled a persons brains ... or... its dead and is being animated by some kind of paranormal( read supernatural) force which is compelling it to seek out and kill living humans.
I guess an alien race or other entity could power up a reanimating energy on a fairly large scale to use dead bodies to kill people so that's another possibility. A parasite could take over a body and control it and cause madness, that's another option. But it would still be living, not undead.
I'd just once like them to really delve into the how and why of zombies and what's driving them, what forces are at work. Instead its zombie virus, run zombie wants to eat you. Boring.
So its come down to Zombie flicks being little better than the Twilight Vampire movies. I'll pass.

I think you are overanalyzing a bit - it takes the fun out of it when you do.
I personally don't like supernatural, Demonic or magical themes in zombie movies, so virus is okay with me. I'm ok with the explanation that zombies only crave living tissue and that maybe freshly turned zombies have a hard time off camera. The virus wants to live and proliferate so it forces its hosts to only attack the living. There's gotta be some evidence of that basic viral or host/parasite behavior in real life.

Heading out to see it, and if the bolded are the focus, I'll be happy, haven't any interest in, hokey, spreading viruses much less zombies, so, hopefully, I'll be one happy camper. Of course I do realize zombies and disease will be important features. Forgive me for just wanting to see this as a fun action packed Brad Pitt movie.
Back sometime after 6pm. With a thumbs up or thumbs down.

Just came back from a screening. Original Z film in that it is not the usual plot of survivors holed up or journeying to places of refugee. Very fast paced once the Z outbreak becomes personal. Tension holds through to the end. The latter appears rushed.
Thoroughly recommend. Someone on imdb wrote that is it similar to Outbreak meets Dawn of the Dead which is an appropriate comparison.

Well that went a lot faster than I expected. Agree with Felix C, the latter part seemed rushed through, I thought they were just gearing up. Sigh. To me, not the movie for Brad Pitt to display his acting talents, I was way too distracted by his looks. Normally, I can see the character he's playing, this time, all I could see is how beautiful the man is. Sorry just me, I know, but there you have it.
There were a good number of, extremely, tense moments that had me holding my breath, literally took my breath away, but over all, it felt void of something maybe like another half hour or so.
I wasn't blown away by the movie, it wasn't the big Z I hoped for, but it was decent enough.

I really enjoyed this movie. Very fast paced and Brad Pitt's character was very likable.
Better than I expected, and I personally enjoyed WWZ more than Star Trek and Superman (both were good).

I've had some of these same thoughts....why did unimportant extras get eaten or ripped to pieces while the cast of survivors were only bitten and then left to turn into zombies? I did like how on I Am Legend they still seemed to have some semblance of thought; they had mates & were smart enough to make a trap.
