We had the same problem and that is why we cancelled our membership. This was several years ago. Maybe some distribution centers are better than others? We lived in Boulder, Colorado at the time.
Is it just my luck, or do others have issues with the DVDs from Netflix? A high percentage of mine stop, skip, jump, or just plain won't play.
Yes alot do because they assume everyone has the latest garbage that can play these videos! (They send them @ super hi bitrates, use flash to send them, etc) -- Quite taxing on the computer!!
I've had Netflix for many many years and only occasionally (a few times a year, out of dozens and dozens of DVDs sent) have a problem.

Facets, OTOH, has some SERIOUS problems from time to time.
Interesting comment, because with some DVDs, I have MUCH better luck with very, very low-end DVD players (e.g. the cheapest ones they sell at Wal-Mart). Those low-end players also play DVD-R, +R, etc., with very few problems (my sister sends me homemade DVDs a few times a year) -- my more expensive players CANNOT play some of those (and it's not only a matter of +R, -R, or whatever). Maybe I've just had odd luck.

Good point. I have an old computer and DVD player and they both play DVD's from Netflix just fine. They even play DVD's my friend sends me from the UK. I think a lot depends on the equipment someone has.
As mentioned, in the many years I have been subscribing to NetFlix, I think I have had only a few dud DVD's.
I have had Metflix for several years and with few problems. Some discs arrive broken in the mailing and the others that wont play either are scratched beyond use, very very few or they are dirty and so you just use a soft detergent and wash the disc in warm (not hot) water and they play just fine.
I get a error message that states " Disc does not meet specifications". No problem with others including bluerays. I requested replacements for that disc and the get the same error message.
We have cleaned out the player ( new samsung) cleaned the discs etc. Appreciate any advice!

Sounds like it needs a firmware upgrade. Look at this thread, it might not be your exact player, but it's for Samsung:
