Totally, totally agree. I hate horror and am mystified about the attraction. Occasionally some reviewer will write about the subtle broader meaning or social satire, but I'll bet the bulk of the audience is oblivious to any of that.
AGREED, I have way too much stress in my life. I have suffered from PTSD in fact, due to the fact I live next to a psycho NFH. When I spend 2 hours I like to relax thus a comedy or a mystery maybe? I do like "tense" action movies that are fun though.
I am also the type of person that something "stays with them" I have nightmares or think it about it years later.

I'm kind of the same way man, been through too much to need any other worries in life. I only like action, comedy, dramas, or anything that is inspirational.
I like horror movies, but like other posters have mentioned, I can't stand the whole slice and dice crap that is so popular these days. 2 movies that have always sent chills up my spine, even as an adult, (The Exorcist & The Shining) never relied upon a bunch of blood and guts to get the message across, but instead relied upon great story lines, compelling characters and the fear of what's not seen. I'll take a good psychological horror that just sticks with you years after originally seeing it over a slasher flick any day of the week.
I like the older horror movies, felt much more entertaining and suspenseful. Now its all gore and/or somewhat dull plots. The only present day horror movies I like are the Paranormal Activity franchise - simple yet horrifying and the setting/acting feels very real, which makes it very scary. I haven't seen the latest one though.
The only good horror movies have been The Exorcist (well-done and thought-provoking movie), the Nightmare on Elm Street movies because they actually have a dark humor element to them, and the Scream movies for having a fresh premise. Other than that, I am not a fan.

I should have mentioned that in my previous post, but yes, I am also a Universal movie fan. Frankenstein, Dracula, and any of those old black and white movies were just spooky as hell, without all the need for blood and guts. I like the classics and the great legendary horror movie actors. Just the voices of Vincent Price or Boris Karlof were enough to send chills up your spine. They just don't make legends like those 2 (or others) anymore. This new era of horror movies, they can have it. And this is coming from somebody who is only 32.

I never understood the appeal of this genre.
"Oooh....there's a crazy man armed with a chainsaw and he's going to cut up somebody into tiny pieces and eat them!"
Really? This is entertainment to some people? Don't we already see enough disturbing garbage on the evening news?
