Making a successful STAR WARS sequel isn't about "canon" or lack of Gungans. It's about an exciting story involving characters you care about, and Abrams is very good at doing that. With Brad Bird not interested, I can't think of a better choice for this movie than J.J. Abrams. Although I do hope the producers take way 90% of his lens flares.

No. For two reasons. One, when it comes to dialogue and character development, Whedon is too snarky for STAR WARS. SW can be very funny, but it should not be about posing for one-liners, which is Whedon's strength. Whedon's dialogue poses too much. And two, Lucasfilm has made it pretty clear that they want their screenwriter working on this, and when it comes to adapting the work of others, Whedon doesn't play well with others. He's good at directing his own scripts.

And I know I'm in the minority on this, but I thought Firefly was a brilliant idea that completely failed in execution. Maybe it had a lot to do with network interference. I don't know. But I do know that Kathleen Kennedy and Disney aren't going to give any director complete free reign.

You are right, Whedon does infuse a lot of sarcasm into his dialogue that wouldn't work in Star Wars. I still do appreciate how Whedon is able to flesh his characters out, though. I just hope J.J. Abrams is able to do that (and more) with Star Wars since the franchise is lacking in the emotional connection department -- and to your point, that role is also up to the writers and how strong of a script they can produce.

As a huge science fiction fan, Am I alone in saying it's time to just leave Star wars alone? After the last new trilogy i would rather watch Plan 9 from outer space opposed to it.

I don't really consider Star Wars to be science fiction, but I'm not against the series continuing. I'm not a huge fan of what George Lucas did with the most recent trilogy, and I'd really like to see what J.J. can do with it

I hope he gives some of the space ships cloaking devices, and gives all of them transporter systems. That would make Star Wars better.

Send Spock to Jedi school and give the Klingons some light sabers.
