For me, The Notebook had the best opening scene. Old Allie is standing at the window of the old folks home, looking confused as she stares at the water and sees the geese fly by. It's only later in the movie that we see what the significance of the geese was when she was young.
In her demenita-riddled mind, she knows they have meaning, but you can tell by her expression that she doesn't know what it is. Very sad, and I think Gena Rowlands played it just right.
