Any other fans of this actor?

He did some excellent films in the early 80's. (1) Ordinary People, (2) Taps, and (3) The Falcon and the Snowman.

1. He won an Oscar at age 20 for this film as Best Supporting Actor.

2. In "Taps" he played a boy's military school cadet who takes over the school after an announcement that it will be closed and the land redeveloped. He did such a great performance in this role, that I was surprised to learn that he was originally chosen for the role Sean Penn would play. I can't imagine anyone else doing this role. But I can also see how he probably would have done a good job in the secondary role too.

3. In "Falcon" he plays a young man working in a military data-transfer center, who ends up selling secrets to foreign countries. The amazing thing is that it was based on a true story.

I don't keep up with movies and TV much, but I am surprised that he has not done more work. His roles in these 3 films alone rank among the best I've ever seen. If you haven't seen any of these films I highly recommend them all.

I always liked Timothy Hutton. I liked him in Beautiful Girls. Natalie Portman's character had such a crush on him!

my favorite movie of his has always been "Taps". I was about the same age at the time and also going to somewhat of a military school, so I could relate with those guys.

Agree, and for me especially Ordinary People, which would have gone on my most profound list of movies for me back in it's time.

Timothy Hutton was certainly excellent in Ordinary People and so was Mary Tyler Moore as the grieving yet emotionally unavailable mother

I'm sort of a half-hearted fan. With Taps and Ordinary People, I would have thought that he'd have a brilliant movie career, but somehow it didn't happen.
