It started at $2 (so the seller didn't expect it to be valuable), there were 36 bids by 10 bidders and several of those are now NARU (Not a Registered User, ie: they were kicked off eBay).
Also, the seller never declared that the VHS wasn't a rental (discarded after use in a rental store, which for a VHS greatly increases chances it's wear damage will be significant), and he even states that he had only watched the first five minutes, so the presumption is that the rest of the movie has no warranty of watch-ability.
Some VHS quality was and is superior to DVD transfers. I suppose this was bought by a collector. People do spend too much on hobbies sometimes, especially on Ebay.
The bidding as described above is suspicious. Too much schill bidding on Ebay these last few years. I only bid in the final 10seconds if I want something.

A lot of DVDs are different cuts (often even edited music) and there are many VHS that aren't on DVD at all. I have a buddy that hawks VHS and old video games on ebay and routinely sells them for hundreds.

I don't understand that. But then some people have more dollars than sense..
