As kids we would love watching almost every film that included the stop motion creatures of Ray
Harryhausen. Just saw a documentary about him on Netflix. His work has influenced many film makers
including G. Lucas, S. Spielberg, Nick Park (Wallis and Gromit) and current special effects in the
film industry.
He created so many creatures by hand and his father (up until his death) would construct the metal
frames. Some of my favorites are the skeletons, Ymir, Talos, Medusa and so many more.
Your favorite films and creatures?

The six-armed octopus overtaking the Golden Gate Bridge in It Came From Beneath The Sea is a classic.

Wonderful documentary! He was part of my childhood, I was mesmerized by the cyclops, medusa and assorted beasts. I think Jack the Giant Killer was my favorite. My first crush was Kerwin Matthews, who played Jack and Sinbad.
The doc was a loving tribute to a talented and apparently lovely, modest man who was a motion picture visionary.

He really was a down to earth and a nice guy. San Francisco wouldn't allow them to film by the GG Bridge in fear that
the public would think the bridge would seem "unsafe" as if a giant octopus would ever come around? They managed to sneak
it in.
Would be great to see the museum in London.

There was a street named Argonaut that I used to pass on a daily basis. Not a single time did I drive by there & not think of those skeletons fighting!

I was always such a great fan of Ray Harryhausen AND Jason and the Argonauts that when my daughters were little and we'd play monster, I would walk into the room with that leaning back jerky motion (If your a fan of Harryhausen you know exactly what I mean) and make roaring sounds. They would giggle with laughter.

He was a true artist at his craft that inspired so many filmmakers.

And there wasn't a cuss word, a blood splatter or any big deal effects. Just amazing creatures, a hero and a princess.
Only violence was an occasional skeleton beheaded or men roasting on a BBQ spit.( cyclops do such things)
Someone did get squashed by the giant iron statue guard too. But, it all seemed like such fun.

^^^^precisely and the films held your attention. Anyone who admires and enjoys his work should watch the
documentary about him. There are 2 on Netflix - I watched "Ray Harryhausen - Special Effects Titan."

Mr. Harryhausen....Yes, a certified cinematic genius and innovator. The Lord of the Rings owes him alot!!!
Many years have passed since I first saw his films of Gulliver and Jason yet I just can't escape that feeling of being taken to other worlds and enthralled with the captivating images he put up on the screen. They certainly reach those areas where our imaginations drive the entertainment. They did before and apparently still do with many of us.
